What is the idea of ’one country one election’?
The real meaning of ‘one country one election’ is that Parliament, Assembly and local body elections should be held simultaneously at the same time. With this, voters i.e. people will vote for all three levels of government or administration in a single day. However, the elections for the Assembly and Parliament are conducted by the Central Election Commission. Whereas local body elections are conducted by the State Election Commission. Therefore, technically Parliament and Assembly elections can be conducted simultaneously.
